Where the Maine Logger Education Alliance Came From
The Maine Logger Education Alliance (MLEA) was formed as a result of a series of meetings that took place during the winter of 2008 - 2009. These meetings invited a cross section of stake holders of Maine's logging community with the focused purpose being to explore the education and training needs of the logging industry in Maine.
Why We Created This Site
After the meeting, the input gathered was examined and categorized into broad groups. It was realized that there is actually a great deal of training going on in Maine. In fact one very significant outcome of the meeting was the realization that a central source of all the different training sources in Maine and nearby areas needed to be created.
After great discussion, the MLEA decided to create this site to serve as a source of information regarding the various levels of training that exists, new training that will develop, and as a portal to other sources of information, training and technology that will help Maine's logging industry prosper in the 21st century
Who We Are
We strive to represent a solid cross section of Maine's logging industry. Involvement is open to anyone who feels education and training in Maine's second most important industry is important enough to deserve a focused, coordinated effort. In the past we have had input from the Certified Logging Professinal Program, Master Logger, Maine Tree Foundation, Forest Resources Association, Sustainable Forestry Initiative, Maine Forest Service, high school forestry instructors and others to get as far as we have. We welcome input from anyone associated with Maine's logging industry, especially logging contractors.
